Thirukural 616 :
முயற்சி திருவினையாக்கும் முயற்றின்மை
இன்மை புகுத்தி விடும்.
(muyarci thiruvinai aakkum muyaṟtṟinmai
inmai puguththi vidum.)
Possession of diligence will generate wealth; lack of diligence will dump a person into poverty.
Classical Interpretation
Thiruvalluvar teaches here that diligence (muyarci) is the seed of success, while laziness (muyaṟtṟinmai) invites downfall. Even those born into hardship can rise through effort, but those who abandon perseverance invite failure. Effort, therefore, is not merely labor — it is sacred energy that turns intention into prosperity.
Modern Reflection — The Legacy of Dr. Norazah
In October 2025, Malay Mail featured an inspiring story of Prof. Ts. Dr. Norazah Mohd Suki, a distinguished academic from Universiti Utara Malaysia, who was ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists by Stanford University for the seventh consecutive year. When asked about her achievement, she humbly said it was “an acknowledgment of hard work, and a legacy for UUM and Malaysia.”

Her story mirrors the essence of Thirukkural 616. Coming from ordinary beginnings, Dr. Norazah’s rise was not accidental but the result of tireless effort, research integrity, and unwavering commitment. Her journey proves that diligence creates its own fortune. In the competitive world of academia, where recognition fades quickly, consistent effort is what sustains legacy and Dr. Norazah embodies that truth.
Her contributions to consumer behavior, sustainability, and digital education have made a lasting impact, both nationally and internationally. Yet, her humility remains her strength; she continues to mentor young scholars, reminding them that perseverance is the bridge between dreams and destiny.
Dr. Norazah’s achievements are not just a personal triumph but a national symbol of how effort transforms destiny. She stands as living proof that “muyarci thiruvinai aakkum” : effort turns labor into something divine, something that uplifts not only oneself but also the world around them.
Final Thought
Success built on effort is not luck — it is divinity in motion.
