Background:

On August 6, 2025, a tragic crash involving a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9 helicopter claimed the lives of all eight people on board, including two government ministers. The victims’ remains were burned beyond recognition, prompting the Ghanaian government to send samples to South Africa for forensic analysis.

This event sparked a national conversation about Ghana’s forensic capabilities. Dr. Aaron Amankwaa, a recognised expert, was interviewed on Akwaaba FM’s morning show by host Osahene. During the interview, he explained the vital role of forensic science in identifying victims and addressed whether Ghana has the capacity to handle such complex investigations domestically.
