Happy International Day for Women and Girls of African Descent!

My name is Boluwarin Kolawole. I am a Lecturer in Business and Management at the University of Sunderland, United Kingdom. Also, I am a digital creator and a lifestyle vlogger. I have a PhD in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Strategy from Northumbria University, United Kingdom; Masters in Business Analysis and Consultancy from University of Hertfordshire; and a Bachelor’s in Agriculture from Landmark University, Nigeria. I am a member of the Business Academy of Management and my research interests are in SMEs, HRM, Leadership and Strategy.

As an individual, I believe in living a life of impact and imparting knowledge. This personal belief has driven my career choices towards roles where I can empower others, foster communities of continuous learning and growth. It motivates me to share insights, mentor others and ensure that my experiences benefit those around me. This personal philosophy guides me to live in a way that is of a positive impact and inspiration to others. Ultimately, contributing to both my community and my profession, leaving a lasting positive influence.

As we celebrate International Day for Women and Girls of African Descent today, my message to all women and girls of African descent is that we are beautiful, priceless, valuable, strong, and capable of achieving great things.

We are much stronger than we think. Though, we might come from low-income homes, underrepresented ethnic groups, and backgrounds with limited access to quality education, quality healthcare and good living standards, we should not let these circumstances discourage us from pursuing our dreams.

We are women clothed with dignity, grace, and confidence. Our resilience and strength shine through every tough situation.

To all the women and girls of African descent: Be proud of who you are. The hardships, struggles, and discomforts you face are not just obstacles – they’re stepping stones toward a future filled with promise. Challenge yourself and the status quo. Strive for excellence in your career, invest in your personal and professional growth, and become a force for transformation in your communities and the wider society.

Never stop believing in yourself and always know that you are strong, beautiful, and worthy of every good thing that comes your way. There is a great future ahead. Do not lose hope.

Celebrating International Day for Women and Girls of African Descent is another day to remind ourselves that we are vision carriers and nation builders. We are worth being celebrated every day.
